Today we went over how to find the schedule for the Capstone project, as well as how we will be graded. We also watched a video from former students who gave us advice for class. We went over how to find the Capstone schedule because that is important for deadlines we will need to meet in the future. It is important to know how we will be graded so that we can apply ourselves in the correct manner for class. We watched the video with advice to learn about what this class will be like and to gain an advantage. My chromebook crashed near the end of class, which is a problem I will fix in the future by having less tabs open and having my chromebook plugged in at all times. Next, I need to do a bunch of homework.

Today we covered the concept of an "exploded view" of an object. We did this by looking at an exploded view of a car and trying to figure out which parts were which. Doing this helped me and my group understand why an exploded view is useful, and how we might go about drawing up and exploded view of our own. My group and I did not get all of the parts of the car correct, but that wasn't really a problem. We also discussed a conceptual view of an object. The example that we were tasked to work on was a bicycle. Part of what I will do next is to draw out the process that causes a bike to accelerate. Also, I will disassemble an object and draw an exploded view of it.

Today's focus was on improving our Break-it-Apart projects. I worked on my project for a few hours yesterday, and I was happy with my exploded view sketch. We were encouraged to look at the requirements on Mr. Tronconi's website for the project in order to help us complete the project. I did this, and I made sure to answer more of the questions that were asked about our objects, mine being an electric pencil sharpener. As I am writing this reflection from a future perspective, I know that I should have answered each of the questions individually and more precisely in order to get a better grade. From now on, I will stick more closely to the guidelines given to us.

Yesterday we decided on our Capstone Project groups. Today we went through different resources we will be using throughout the project. I made accounts for Toggl, a website for making Gantt charts, and Padlet, where we will brainstorm for our project. These two websites will help us organize our thoughts and manage our time throughout the project. Initially, I had problems getting on to the shared Gantt chart, but I figured it out and moved on. Also, we peer reviewed each others Break-it-Apart projects as a class. This weekend, I will have to fill out the Gantt chart and do other homework.

Today my group and I worked on our digital logo design. First, we made some sketches and decided on the one we liked the best. Next, we put that sketch into an online digital design program and cleaned it up. We did this because our project and eventual product will need a name and recognizable logo. Problems we ran into while doing this included disagreeing over which sketch to use as our logo, and choosing the word to turn into our logo. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to do the whole thing sooner and on time. I was happy with our result and process. Going forward, we need to choose mentors, decide on a project idea, and begin design speculations based on a customer survey.
Daily Log 09/11
For the past twelve days, my group and I have been adding to our Padlet, updating our Gantt chart, and surveying potential customers. We came up with a demand and wish list that laid out what we think is necessary for our design and what we hope to accomplish in our design. After we had results from our customers, we updated our demand and wish list and wrote a final project proposal. Also, we now have a mentor on board, John Long, who can help us out with his expertise in mechanization. Today, we are "decomposing" our design. This will help us break down what our design needs to accomplish into singular, simple steps. With the problem broken up into simple, easy steps, it will become easier to solve. I will also be updating my digital portfolio, this website, today. I will exhibit all of the progress we have made so far on this website so that my parents, friends, and others can see what I am working on. This is an important part of the process because if we do not communicate our work to the world, it is like it never happened. Problems I have had over the last week or so were that we left the project proposal until the last minute, so we had to cram it in at the end. Going forward, I will spread my work out better and pace myself. In the near future, I will begin learning new drawing techniques that will help with our design, as well as doing other homework.
